Ingredients for Pumpkin Deviled Eggs
Here’s everything you need to make these festive pumpkin deviled eggs:
- Eggs: Large hard-boiled eggs are best for deviled eggs as they hold a nice amount of filling.
- Mayonnaise: Gives the filling that creamy texture. Alternatively, you can use creamy Greek yoghurt.
- Mustard: Adds a tangy depth of flavour to the filling. Dijon mustard or whole-grain mustard works great. In this recipe, I’ve gone for whole-grain mustard made with apple cider vinegar for a tangy twist.
- Smoked paprika: This adds a smoky flavour, but it also gives the deviled egg filling an orange hue.
- Complete Seasoning: I’ve used my Homemade Complete Seasoning Blend to add loads of flavour with just one teaspoon. You can also use your own favourite spice mix.
- Salt & Pepper: Season to taste with a pinch of salt and pepper to make the other flavours pop.
- Parsley: A tiny sprig of parsley serves as the “stem” of the pumpkin.
How to Make Pumpkin Deviled Eggs
These pumpkin-deviled eggs LOOK like pumpkins, but there’s no pumpkin or pumpkin spice in this recipe! This festive version of a classic deviled egg is perfect to serve during the autumn season. If you can boil an egg, you can make this appetiser!
Step 1: Boil and prep the eggs
Place your eggs in a pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer and boil for 10 minutes. Once done, transfer the eggs to an ice bath and peel once cooled.
Step 2: Make the filling
Cut the eggs in half lengthwise and gently remove the yolks. In a bowl, mash the yolks with mayonnaise, mustard, smoked paprika, a pinch of spice mix and salt & pepper until smooth and creamy. Taste the filling and adjust spices to your liking.
Step 3: Fill the eggs
Transfer the yolk mixture back into the egg whites. Use a piping or ziplock bag for ease, or a spoon for a rustic look.
Step 4: Decorate
With the piping bag I’ve added some vertical lines of filling on top of the ‘mound’, to help resemble the outside of a pumpkin. You can also use a toothpick to create these ‘ridges’ if you’re spooning the filling back in the egg whites. After filling, sprinkle with additional smoked paprika and add a small piece of parsley on top to resemble the pumpkin stem.
Step 5 Serve
These deviled eggs can be served immediately or refrigerated until ready to serve.

Pumpkin Deviled Eggs Tips & Alternatives
- Spicy version: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce for a fiery version.
- Balanced Flavour: Always taste your filling before you fill your eggs. My mustard was quite tangy because it was made with apple cider vinegar. If your filling tastes too salty or bland add a couple drops of lemon juice for a bit of a zing to balance the flavours. You can always add an extra sprinkle of spice blend or paprika powder for a stronger flavour.
- Get creative with garnishes: Add tiny olive slices or roasted pepper strips to create mini Jack’o’lanterns. Instead of a small sprig of parsley, you could also add a piece of chive to represent the pumpkin stem.
- Make Ahead & Storage Tips: The deviled eggs can be made ahead of time and kept in the fridge until serving. Store them in an airtight container. They can be made up to 2 days in advance. Another option is to make the egg yolk mixture ahead of time and fill the egg whites right before serving. I like to store the egg yolk mixture ready-made in a piping bag. This is also a great option if you want to bring the eggs to another location and fill them on the spot.
- Ziplock bag instead of piping bag: If you haven’t got a piping bag you could also use a ziplock bag and snip off one corner.
